We’re looking for a Senior Python Developer to help our energy tech client transform access to clean and reliable energy in emerging markets.

Beetroot is a trusted tech partner for companies making a difference. We’re setting up a dedicated team for our client – a pioneering company in the energy tech space – to accelerate their product development.
Our client is a fast-growing company providing IoT smart metering solutions that are reshaping the energy industry in Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Their platform enables utilities to deliver clean, affordable energy by detecting energy theft, optimizing performance, and supporting sustainable energy practices.
In this role, you’ll contribute to backend development that directly supports operational efficiency, energy accessibility, and innovation across the energy sector in underserved regions.

What you’ll do in this role

• Develop, maintain, and enhance backend services and APIs using Python, Django, and Django Rest Framework (DRF).
• Implement asynchronous task queues using Celery to manage background processes.
• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases, specifically MySQL and AWS DynamoDB, to manage and retrieve data efficiently.
• Utilize Kafka for real-time data streaming and event-driven architecture.
• Deploy, manage, and monitor applications in AWS using tools like Terraform for infrastructure as code.
• Integrate CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitLab CI for automated testing and deployments.
• Optimize performance, reliability, and scalability of applications on Linux-based environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build new features and improve existing functionality.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues, ensuring high availability and performance of our platform.

We’re looking for

• 5+ years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on Python.
• Proficient in Django and Django Rest Framework (DRF) for building APIs and web applications.
• Experience with Celery for managing background tasks.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases (MySQL) and NoSQL databases (AWS DynamoDB).
• Hands-on experience with Kafka for real-time data streaming.
• Proficient in AWS cloud services and infrastructure management using Terraform.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD processes with Jenkins and GitLab CI.
• Strong Linux skills for application deployment and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• Excellent communication skills and an independent work ethic.
• Proactive and independent problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

How to knock our socks off

• Experience with FastAPI for building high-performance APIs.
• Knowledge of AWS Lambda and Step Functions for serverless workflows.
• Familiarity with AWS ECS for container orchestration.
• Frontend development experience with Angular and end-to-end testing with Cypress.
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Grafana and Kibana.
• Naming five or more dishes that include beetroot besides borshch.
