Your mission at SimScale is, together with our developers, to build and continuously improve a robust and scalable infrastructure for running our development and production services.
This means staying on top of changes in the cloud computing world, but also technologies and concepts like micro-services and containers, to help foresee the architecture and infrastructure SimScale will need tomorrow.
You ensure that our developers can efficiently and safely test their changes and put them in production, with infrastructure in place for techniques like canary or gradual releases, or blue-green deployment, and logging and metrics to ensure proper behavior of our complex service architecture. Depending on skill set and workload, you also help to adapt existing or new components to infrastructure, e.g., migrating a component to a message-based architecture.
You will be working at the intersection of a complex service-oriented web application and the world of Computer-Aided-Engineering, which brings interesting challenges of its own, such as the combination of significant computations resulting in large amounts of data, while at the same time empowering a thriving community of users to collaborate and to share simulation projects.

Requirements:

• At least 4 years of experience architecting and maintaining the infrastructure for a complex service-oriented system;
• At least 2 years as a developer with the ability to better understand developers’ needs and how to address them;
• Very solid skills in Linux or comparable OS;
• Service-mindset: You feel responsible for keeping the infrastructure running and continuously looking for the next improvements;
• Data-driven: Knowing how to collect data, such as service or infrastructure metrics, and analyze and act on them;
• Experience with a cloud provider, especially AWS;
• Sensibility towards IT security and the topic of concurrency.

We are looking for a talented Cloud Engineer (DevOps or Site Reliability Engineer) to build, test, and maintain the infrastructure and tools to speed the software development and release.

• Manage the CI/CD tools for the digital eCommerce projects.

About you:

• Cloud Engineering such as AWS &/or Azure &/or GCP experience.
• Linux system understanding and experience in managing.
• Scripting skill (at least one of Python, Ruby, Bash, Go).

Knowledge and experience with the following items are not essential, but are highly regarded:

• IaC (infrastructure as a code concept understanding).
• Insight into containerization (Docker &/or Kubernetes).
• Experience with security design principles.
• Experience using Git in a team environment (merge requests, branching, push, and pulls).
• Experience with Nginx, PHP and MySQL (highly desired).
• Experience with observability tooling such as New Relic, Grafana, or CloudWatch.
• IP networking, including familiarity with the functionality, operating, and failure modes of networks (VPC conception).
• Experience with DevOps automation platforms such as Jenkins, Azure Pipeline or CircleCI.

For the past four years, we have been developing an ecosystem of e-government products for a foreign client. There are five large platforms and 15 scrum teams developing products based on these platforms.
Each of the platforms is in fact an electronic cabinet with a set of electronic services that allow both citizens and ex-pats to communicate effectively with the state. Hundreds of people use these products every minute and the number of users is only growing.

Your impact:

• Improve the architecture and Kubernetes cluster, CI/CD, GitOps.
• Improve the current stage environment, Dockerfiles and Helm charts.
• Improve the infrastructure’s visibility and monitoring. We use Prometheus, Grafana, Loki.
• Work closely with development teams.
• Take ownership of implementing and maintaining processes.
• Automate everything that can be automated.
• Build out infrastructure for deployments using tools such as Terraform, Docker, Gitlab CI, Argo CD.
• Build and maintain the CI/CD solution.
• Extend current Infrastructure reliability and manageability.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has at least has 3 years of professional DevOps or similar Software Engineering experience;
• Has experience with configuration management and orchestration tools such as Docker, Helm, Terraform, Kubernetes;
• Has experience with Postgres, ElasticSearch, RabbitMQ;
• Has experience with scripting languages such as Python/Bash;
• Has experience at using metrics, monitoring, and alarming to measure and improve the operational processes;
• Experience with developing and running CI/CD pipelines, GitLab CI (we are using CircleCI);
• Can communicate in English at Intermediate level.

Nice to have:

• Experience with Ruby;
• Experience with GitLab CI;
• Experience with GitOps (ArgoCD).

• Participating in DevOps related projects;
• Providing migration to orchestration solution;
• Automating routine DevOps activities;
• Improving configuration management playbooks;
• Automating environment provisioning and products installation;
• Performing root cause analysis for technical issues;
• Providing immediate response for any alerts;
• Working with central log aggregation, log monitoring and alerting: collect logs, store logs, build dashboards, configure alerting;
• Operating and maintaining of production environments;
• Investigating alternative solutions;
• Operating the system, making sure that the system is healthy and has enough resources;
• Helping developers to debug problems;
• Intermediate+ English level.

Essential professional experience:

• 3+ years of relevant experience in DevOps role;
• Good experience with AWS;
• Good knowledge of container tooling and orchestration technologies (Kubernetes);
• Good experience with Linux;
• Experience with version control systems (Git);
• Good understanding of production-level network architecture;
• Experience with setting up and maintaining monitoring services like Prometheus/Alertmanager;
• Good knowledge of scripting;
• Experience in managing systems with configuration management (Ansible/Terraform);
• Experience with Helm.

Desirable skills and personal features:

• Hands-on experience with any of technologies: Apache Cassandra, Apache Kafka, Istio service mesh.
